Staying on top of your brand’s social media presence may be the last thing on your mind amid the COVID-19 epidemic but it’s now more crucial than ever to reach out to your audience. Even during the lockdown, your customers are looking for ways to be social and connect with others and social media is what they’re turning too.

So yes, you should continue posting on your social channels! The goal is to build new relationships and maintain your existing relationships with customers. Though customers may not be ready to buy right now, they will eventually, and if you’ve positioned your brand for success, it will be what they turn to in the future.

But creating content that is valuable, relevant, and empathetic to your consumers during time is where most brands get stuck, so we have a few suggestions to help:

Don’t proceed with business as usual. Show empathy.

Everyone is looking for a connection right now. Share content that is authentic to your brand and helps to tell your story. Highlight the good that your company does but create opportunities to communicate with your customers directly. An open line of communication allows your brand to speak to your customers on a more individualized level and allows you to be proactive in addressing their business needs

Experiment with new types of content. Don’t be afraid to post something that is more creative than usual.

Instead of product pushing, opt for informational or motivational content that creates value for your audience. Experiment with different kinds of blogs, videos, posts, and live streams. Instead of writing about your latest client success story, maybe turn to fun topics, like quarantine cocktails, a simple cooking class, or tips on how to ace homeschooling. As simple as these may sound, they present your brand in a more personable light that will speak to your audience on a new, impactful level.

Page Break

Make it funny! Not everything on your channel needs to be so serious. People appreciate a good laugh.

The pandemic is in no way a laughing matter but finding humor in our daily frustrations can lead to connection and brighter attitudes. Sharing a funny meme or two about our shared everyday struggles can make your audience laugh and reassure them they aren’t alone. Whether it’s funny WFH fails or the coworker with the Fiji background on every video call, it’s something we are all adjusting to and laughter can make everything easier.

Join the conversation across multiple social channels.

Just because a social channel may seem like it may be dominated by a younger demographic, don’t overlook it. No time like the present to start a podcast or learn a funny TikTok dance.

If these are outside of your wheelhouse, try going “Live” on one of your existing platforms and connect over viewer comments and questions.

Social media is a great tool to engage with your audience consistently and positively amidst the pandemic. Don’t neglect it and instead use it as your greatest asset. Just remember to be kind and show some empathy after all we all are going through this together.
